I treated myself to playTV a few weeks ago. It’s an excellent piece of hardware for the PS3. Plug your aerial into it, plug it into your PS3, install some software and voila. Pause, rewind and record Freeview onto your PS3 HDD. I wouldn’t bother getting a PS3 and playTV just for this functionality, but if you already have a PS3 it’s well worth it. The picture quality is vastly improved from the built in Freeview tuner in my Samsung TV. I assume this is because the PS3 upscales the picture, but I can’t find anywhere on the internet that confirms this. Visit the wiki entry for playTV to get the lowdown on its full capabilities.

I went to Birmingham last week to investigate the German market and get some Christmas presents. It was so successful that I ended up buying myself an early Christmas present, a compact digital camera. The camera in question is the FujiFilm FinePix J15fd. It was pretty cheap from Boots and it’s very small and neat. Probably not the best compact around, but I like it. I need to organise myself a Flickr account and integrate it with this ‘ere website at some point, then I can demonstrate my lack of photography skills to a wider audience.

It looks like this has been around for a couple of years, but I’ve only just discovered it myself. It’s described as being a ‘cinematic way to discover the web’. Whatever sort of media buzzwords you might want to use, it’s a pretty interesting piece of software. Available on WinDOS and Mac for most (could be all, I CBA to check everything) browsers, even available for your iPhone. Anyway, it allows you to search media from various websites in all its glorious forms in a big scrollable wall. Jump in and out of images and videos, add them to your favourites or send them to friends. Cooliris is a great add on to your browser.

This is me writing about something other than films for a change. Exciting. Gears of War is a simple game. Shoot, kill; shoot, kill; shoot, kill… watch a cut scene… shoot, kill… You get the idea. But it’s great fun. I think I prefer games you can just pick up and play and not have to get stuck into some attempted deep and meaningful back story. Which is probably why I decided not to get Fallout 3. Anyway, I completed GoW 2 last night and it was solid fun. Now if only somebody would coop with me. Yes, that’s another hint, guys.

There were lots of old classic cars there, too. Including, Aston Martins, Lotuses, Peugeots, Renaults, Morgans, a current F1 Renault and a host of other cars I couldn’t identify. There was also a Leyat Helica in the car park when we arrived. A very interesting old car with a propeller on the front, unfortunately it wasn’t running, it would have been great to see. Seems I didn’t take as many pictures of the different cars as I thought, but here are a few I did take.

I’ve only found out about this by accident, and I am somewhat late in stripping off, but I think it’s a fantastic suggestion. The whole idea is to promote Web Standards through the proper use of (X)HTML and semantic markup, together with a good hierarchy structure.
