I’ve been too busy recently to post anything on here, but I’ve got the time to post this weeks song, this will at least make a few people happy. I’ve not really put that much thought into the song I was going to pick this week, but that has no bearing on how much I like it, or indeed how much you should appreciate it!

This week it’s ‘The Fugees – Killing me Softly’, this got to number 1 back in 1996. There may be a few more Fugees’ tracks in the future, but I won’t spoil the surprise and reveal what they are.

Throwback Thursday: 7 Seconds

This week’s choice was an impulse decision and I’m not entirely sure how I came to it. I think I must have heard another Neneh Cherry song on the radio and started thinking about this one – it was a busy day. At least the local cheese radio still has some use, if not only to annoy me.

So, it’s ‘Neneh Cherry & Youssou N’Dour – 7 Seconds’ which got to number 3 in 1994. When I watched the video I thought it was around 97 or 98, seems I was wrong… again!

Throwback Thursday: Semisonic – Secret Smile

I feel that Semisonic are an underrated band, which is a shame because they have some great songs. Again, though, I feel I didn’t appreciate Semisonic when I was younger, I’m not sure why this is. It may be because I didn’t think it was cool to like certain bands, whereas today I don’t really care what other people think of my musical tastes. Good job I’ve grown up, really.

Enough of my Jibba Jabba! Secret Smile got to number 13 back in 1999, which I’m surprised about because I thought it was older. There goes my sense of time…

Throwback Thursday: Garbage – Stupid Girl

There were a couple of Garbage songs I could have chosen, but I decided to go with the one I liked the most and avoid any outside influences. Garbage were probably one of my favourite bands during the late 90s; my interest has dwindled since, but I still like the older songs. I think I use to quite fancy Shirley Manson, too. There’s still something about her, not sure what, hmm…

Anyhow, ‘Stupid Girl’ got to number 4 way back in 1996, I would have been 14 years old then, god… I can’t believe that is over ten years ago.

Throwback Thursday: EBTG – Missing

I’ve gone with ‘Everything but the Girl – Missing’ this week because it reminds me of some very good times in school. Not that I like to go back and revisit my past too much, but it’s nice for nostalgia.

This song reached the great heights of number 69 back in 1994, but the Todd Terry remix got it to number 3 the next year. The version on my blog is that very remix, enjoy.

Throwback Thursday: The Verve – Bitter Sweet Symphony

It’s that time of the week again! This week I’m going for the Verve and Bitter ‘Sweet Symphony’ which got to number 2 in 1997. When it was around, I don’t think I really appreciated it that much, but now I realise it’s a great song, with a great video.

Some extra info: Apparently, because a sample of a Rolling Stones song was used in ‘Bitter Sweet Symphony’ the Verve were sued and the Rolling Stones subsequently own all the royalties to the song.

Throwback Thursday: The Cranberries – Dreams

So, I have decided to start a weekly feature on my blog whereby I show the videos to songs from yesteryear. Most of them will probably be from the 90s, due to me being a teenager through most of that time; however, there may be the odd track from the 80s. I’m hoping this won’t turn into too much of a cheese-fest, but I know a few people who’d like that. These are the same people who claim not to like mainstream music, they know who they are, Miguel!

This weeks Throwback Thursday tune is ‘Dreams’ by the Cranberries, which, interestingly only got to number 33 in the charts back in 1994.

I really love this song at the minute, it’s a collaboration between Robyn and Kleerup, both of which I have never heard of. Shame on me. The video’s not so great, but the song is fantastic. I’m not sure if it will come out as a single, but Robyn’s latest album ‘Konichiwa Bitches’ features it.

On a side note, using YouTube videos on WordPress with a XHTML 1.0 Strict DT is a real PITA. The text editor was trying very hard to annoy me by changing the tags. Anyway, I’ve found a good plugin that allows me to add them quickly and easily and validates with a Strict DT. Go to OzBlog.com.au for the YouTube & Google & Metacafe WordPress Plugin.
